Launching a Conversation on Policy and the Future of Ohio

Readers,

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am launching this journal because campaigns should be about real conversations. I want us to talk openly about what is working, what is not, and how we can make life better for families and workers here in Ohio.

I grew up in Mantua, raised by my grandmother in Robin Trailer Park on Route 82, and I was the first in my family to graduate from college. I know what it feels like to face uncertainty, to work night shifts after your day job to help build the future you are striving for, and to fight for opportunity to make your life better. Those experiences shaped me and drive my belief that policy must serve families like ours, not just political insiders.

This journal is where I will share ideas for strengthening families, protecting workers, and supporting industry in ways that make sense not only for Portage, Summit, and Geauga Counties, but also for Ohio and our nation as a whole. Some posts will explain policies in plain language, while others will provide a more in-depth analysis.

Over the weeks ahead, I will write about:

  • Re-introducing Ohio’s Child Tax Credit, building on Governor DeWine’s proposal and tying it to work, training, or service to support families

  • Giving families flexible childcare options, including support for faith-based, licensed centers or in-home care, rather than one-size-fits-all mandates

  • Making starter homes more affordable through cutting red tape and considering how we can reform zoning

  • Protecting legal Ohio workers by supporting the expansion of E-Verify to ensure fair wages and fair competition for our businesses

  • Broadening job readiness across Ohio by breaking down barriers to apprenticeships and career training, especially in manufacturing, energy, and other growing industries

  • Honoring employers that value faith, family, and work by elevating workplaces that put families first without adding government mandates

  • Fueling Ohio’s industrial future through advanced manufacturing, defense-related facilities, and aerospace opportunities in Northeast Ohio

  • Cutting back government red tape by simplifying licensing, permitting, and regulation so businesses can grow without unnecessary hurdles

  • Putting Ohio businesses first by giving local companies priority on state contracts so our tax dollars stay in our communities

These are not abstract ideas. They are real, grounded in the challenges and hopes that shaped me growing up, and they can serve as models for policies across Ohio and the nation.

I also want this to be a two-way conversation. Please share your stories, your critiques, and your ideas. The best policies do not come from Columbus or Washington. They come from communities like ours when people are willing to share their experiences and demand better.

This campaign is not just about me asking for your vote. It is about all of us working together to shape the future we can be proud of. Thank you for being here at the beginning of this journey. Together, we can build a stronger Ohio, and by doing so, a stronger nation.
