MEET RYAN
Ryan Britt grew up in Mantua, Ohio, where his family faced the challenges of poverty, substance abuse, and trying to make ends meet. Those early experiences instilled in him the value of hard work, personal responsibility, and a constant drive to strive for something better.
At Crestwood High School, Ryan was elected class president all four years, served as president of the National Honor Society, and graduated as valedictorian. To save for the future, he also worked jobs as a house cleaner, dishwasher, and at a trampoline park after school and on the weekends, experiences that deepened his appreciation for hard work and the people who do it every day.

Ryan took those lessons with him to Bowdoin College in Maine, where he majored in Religion and Government. As the first in his family to attend college, he earned a full tuition scholarship and became part of the inaugural Geoffrey Canada Scholarship program. While at Bowdoin, he pursued opportunities to serve and lead, was elected Student Body President, and dedicated himself to strengthening the student community. His commitment to leadership and service was recognized when he received the President’s Award, given for “exceptional personal achievements and uncommon contributions to the College.” He was also honored with the Goodwin Commencement Prize for his address, “The Great Hope of a Bowdoin Education,” in which he reflected on his upbringing in Northeast Ohio and how he held onto hope to break his family’s cycle of poverty.

Ryan has worked with at-risk youth as an advocate, served as a night security guard, worked as a paralegal at law firms, and most recently as a legislative assistant in Congress. In that role, he focused on labor, pensions, tax, healthcare, and veterans’ policy, an experience that gave him a front-row seat to the challenges Americans face. While working full-time on Capitol Hill, Ryan also earned a Master of Science in Finance from Merrimack College, reinforcing his capacity to tackle Ohio’s economic and fiscal challenges.
